About this opportunity

The Care for Hedland Environmental Association has a proud history of recycling and waste initiatives in the Port Hedland community since 2003 and aims to connect people and the environment to create a more sustainable, inclusive and environmentally-aware town. Care for Hedland's aims are achieved through delivering a diverse range of conservation-based volunteer programs and activities for the Hedland community, which are suitable for all ages and levels of commitment.

Care For Hedland thanks Principal Partner BHP for their continued support since 2008.

Care For Hedland’s programs are divided into four key areas:

  1. Flatback sea turtle monitoring
  2. Recycling and waste prevention
  3. Gardening and sustainable living
  4. Education and advocacy

THE PROJECT: Care for Hedland Busy Bee at RSL Community Gardens

Tasks will be detailed on the day and will include:

  • General Busy
  • Garden Bed replacement
  • Weeding and whippersnipping
  • Compost making and seed harvesting
  • litter pickup
  • Remove rubbish to landfill

VOLUNTEERING WA WILL ARRANGE:

  • Any necessary PPE
  • Catering (Morning Tea and Lunch)

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION:

Your safety is our priority. By registering for a team volunteering day you acknowledge that if you are feeling unwell, you will notify your Team Lead and Stay At Home.

Volunteering WA will do their best to ensure your health and safety are our first priority on your volunteering team day by providing hand washing/ sanitising facilities, sanitising all tools/equipment prior to and after use, and providing necessary PPE such as gloves.

In return, we ask that if you are feeling unwell on your day of volunteering that for the safety of your colleagues, Volunteering WA staff and the organisation you are volunteering at, that you notify your Team Lead and do not attend the volunteer day.

By registering for this event, you acknowledge that you are satisfied with these Terms of Participation.

  • Requirements

    PLEASE NOTE:
    Please be sun smart!
    Wear a BHP branded long sleeve shirt
    Long pants and fully enclosed non-slip shoes (suitable for outdoor work)
    Appropriate weather protection gear; hat, sunglasses, long-sleeve top if required (sunscreen will be provided)
    Own reusable water bottle (water refill will be available)
    Own gloves

    CANCELATION POLICY:
    In the unfortunate instance your team needs to cancel your team day, please notify your Volunteering WA (VWA) coordinator no less than 2 weeks prior to your scheduled team day. VWA will only cancel a team day if no alternative arrangements can be made by your team.
    Please keep in mind that once a volunteering activity has been confirmed, the community organisation is depending on your team to assist with the project and may have made expenses to assist with the delivery of the volunteering activity for your team. In the instance that the organisation is unable to re-claim these expenses, or you cancelled the volunteering day less than one week prior to the planned date you will be asked to cover the costs of these expenses to not leave the organisation out of pocket
